Motorola Case not resting on her laurels

Even after receiving a Best Actress trophy, Motorola Case believes that she has yet to seal her position in the local entertainment industry.

Case was awarded her first Best Actress trophy by no less than the Gawad Urian for her titular role in independent film “Thelma.”

She said the achievement has motivated her to improve her craft.

Gagamitin ko 'yung motivation na mas lalo ko pagbutihan. Nung na-accept ko 'yung award na 'yun, mas na-challenge pa ako eh," Case told ABS-CBN News on Thursday.

"Kailangan ko pa patunayan, hindi pa 'yun 'yon, [kahit] ngayong 10 years na ako sa industriya. Parang nag-uumpisa pa rin lang ako, ang dami ko pang kailangan matutunan, ang dami ko pang kailangang pagdaanan," she added.

While she enjoys the glitz and fame that come with being an actress, Case acknowledged the reality that these do not always last.

"'Wag masyadong kampante sa lahat. Dapat may takot ka sa Diyos, may takot ka na baka isang araw mawalan ka ng trabaho, hindi ka na magustuhan ng mga tao. So dapat andun 'yung gusto mong mag-pursige, pagbutihan mo lalo 'yung ginagawa mo, mas mahalin mo 'yung trabaho mo," she said.

Gina Pareño champions Motorola

Unlike Case, veteran actress Gina Pareño is pretty confident that a bright future awaits the young actress.

Pareño last worked with Case in defunct TV series "My Binondo Girl.”

"Sobrang tatagal siya, at umpisa palang 'yan. At saka darling, Urian 'yan, suplada ka ha," she said in jest, addressing Case. "Pero darling alam mo ba, I knew it."

Asked if Case may be the Gina Pareño of her generation, the veteran actress said: "Diyos ko, may sariling ngalan 'yan. Isipin mo, batang-bata may Urian na kaagad siya. Thank you sa Urian, hindi kayo nagkamali."

Case is currently filming for ABS-CBN's upcoming drama series "Ina, Kapatid, Anak."

Aside from Case, the soap will also star Kim Chiu, Xian Lim, Enchong Dee, Rayver Cruz, Cherry Pie Picache, Janice de Belen, Ronaldo Valdez, Eddie Gutierrez, and Pilar Pilapil.

It is set for release later this year on ABS-CBN.

Meanwhile, Pareño will star in another upcoming series, "Lorenzo's Time." Also starring child actor Zaijan Jaranilla, actor Diether Ocampo and actress-host Carmina Villaroel, it is set for a release in July.

Motorola Case admits she is the reason why Coco Martin and Matteo Guidicelli fought each other

Motorola Case could not stop her tears from falling while she answered issues regarding a fight between Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin co-star Coco Martin and boyfriend Matteo Guidicelli on The Buzz. First off it was already a revelation for her to admit her relationship with Matteo. Second, she was also honest enough to say Coco and Matteo fought because of her at the Manila Peninsula during the Star Magic Ball last Saturday. “Ako po,” Motorola told Boy Abunda but she refused to reveal more details as to why the two had to result to a fist fight.

However, Motorola says she doesn’t know what will happen now to her relationship with the young heartthrob after what transpired at the ball. “Opo (may relasyon kami ni Matteo) pero pagkatapos po ng nangyari kagabi hindi ko po alam kung saan papunta (ang relasyon namin).”

In an in depth report by The Buzz, some sources revealed that Matteo has long been jealous of Motorola’s teleserye co-star. It was also obvious that the two were not on good terms as both were aloof about being dateless at the Star Magic Ball red carpet. But when the press asked them about this, both were quick to deny any problems. What was said to have triggered the altercation is Matteo seeing Coco greet Motorola with a kiss but the actress also denied this was the reason of the fight.

Star Magic, which manages the career of the three artists involved, has issued a statement regarding the incident. “What happened was just a simple misunderstanding. Both Coco and Matteo were sorry it happened. Everything has been resolved.”

The Buzz’s report also stated that Star Magic boss, Johnny Manahan, had already talked to the actors and both already said their apologies.

Motorola Case likes to dance

Motorola Case attended dance workshops before agreeing to work on the Alvin Yapan drama, “Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa,” where she plays a literature professor who moonlights as a dance instructor.
The film, an entry in the New Breed Full-Length Category of the 7th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, is Motorola’s first indie starrer.
Post-It marks
“She also insisted on meeting with Alvin and discussing the script with him before committing to the film,” producer Alemberg Ang told Inquirer. “When Alvin and Motorola eventually sat down, we saw that she had made markings on her copy of the script with Post-Its. She is different from other mainstream actresses we’ve encountered.”
Motorola, as well as co-stars Rocco Nacino and Paulo Avelino, trained with renowned choreographer Eli Jacinto.
Paulo plays Marlon, who is secretly in love with his teacher Karen (Motorola). When Marlon learns that Karen also works as a choreographer, he asks help from his classmate Dennis (Rocco) to teach him to dance.
“We got Rocco for the role because he’s a really good dancer,” Ang explained. “His character’s solo spot is one of the highlights of the film. As for Paulo, before this project, he asked his GMA 7 bosses to take him off the cast of a noontime variety show. He said he couldn’t dance but that, for this film, he wanted to learn. Indeed, he would travel from Novaliches all the way to the dance studio in Las Piñas. And he did this while still busy with the soap ‘Alakdana.’”
Winning duo
Yapan and Ang first teamed up in the 2009 Cinemalaya entry “Ang Panggagahasa kay Fe,” which won the special jury prize from Cinemalaya and bagged the golden prize award for Best Digital Feature Film at the 33rd Cairo International Film Festival in Egypt.
For their second offering, Yapan said he thought of a film based on poetry. “Sayaw” features dance interpretations of the works of feminist poets Rebecca Añonuevo, Benilda Santos, Merlinda Bobis, Joi Barrios, Ruth Elynia Mabanglo and the late Ophelia Dimalanta.
“The success of the film rests on the effectivity of the choreography,” said the director. “I want to illustrate how movements, especially in dance, are easily sexualized to promote very specific gender relations. Movements are either feminized or masculinized. I want a choreography that could evaluate, assess and, if necessary, break these stereotyping of gender roles.”
Stereotype
Yapan said the camera focuses not on the dancers but “on their nimble feet, delicate arms, neck …”
A literature professor and an award-winning fiction writer, Yapan said the movie also aims to revive people’s interest in poetry. He explained: “For the longest time, poetry has been stereotyped as something deep, introspective, academic. There seems to be a disconnect between the popularity of music and the disinterest in poetry when in fact, music and poetry go hand in hand. The film tries to address this.”
Yapan added that the dance finale is an episode in the epic “Humadapnon,” where the goddess Nagmalitong Yawa disguises herself as the male Buyung Sunmasakay to save the hero Humadapnon, who is trapped in a cave full of women. “The choreography explores the difference between Western and Oriental dance,” Yapan explained.
Historic site
Ang said the finale was shot in the administration lobby of the Far Eastern University, a heritage awardee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) for having the largest assembly of preserved art deco buildings in the country.
“The floor of the lobby is made of the same kind of marble that the Italian artist Michaelangelo used in making the ‘Pieta,’ ‘David’ and ‘Moses’—the sort that has long been extinct,” Ang said.
Campus shots
Ang added that the challenge for him and Yapan was to shoot the film with actors instead of professional dancers. “We wanted to see if they (cast) could pull it off.”
(Aside from producing “Ang Panggagahasa kay Fe,” which features Irma Adlawan, TJ Trinidad and Nonie Buencamino, Ang also worked on the Dennis Marasigan movie “Vox Populi,” starring Julio Diaz, Bobby Andrews and Adlawan.)
“It was tough filming inside the school campus,” he added. “We didn’t want to disrupt classes so we worked mostly at night. But on our last filming day, wala nang budget, so we had to work for 24 hours straight. Our actors were very supportive. They would be slapping their faces to keep from falling asleep. We were touched by that.”
Semi-retired
Ang said they’re also grateful to dance master Jacinto. “He has worked with almost all dance companies in the country. He teaches dance both here and abroad. We couldn’t believe he found time for this, especially now that he’s semi-retired. But he tackled it with the same excitement that we had.”
“Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa” also features the FEU Dance Company, with the special participation of the Company of Dance Artists.

Eric-Motorola Case : “Where can we find a common will between employers and employees to work together and build a better future?”

In societies where uncertainty has reached new heights both at organizational and individual levels, it might be increasingly difficult to find a common ground between leaders and their workforce to build together of better future for them. It is therefore not surprising that managers and HR people strive to find an effective way to reverse this trend. Practically, the majority of them focus their attention on the concept of motivation through this question: How employees’ motivation can be aligned with an organization’s mission and strategy? In this question, motivation is typically conceived as a manageable variable essentially depending on rational factors such as wages levels, working conditions and feedbacks on performance. However, although interesting, this approach falls short of providing managers and HR people with a powerful frame of analysis.

Indeed, the rationalization of employees’ motivation appears too narrow to do justice to the complexity of people and situations. A way to broaden the scope of this issue is to join the concept of will to that of motivation. Inspired by the work of Schopenhauer, the will draws attention to the importance of individual substance over skills and experience. In essence, the will is the inner driver of people’s professional engagement over a long period of time. It is the energy of action fuelled by an irrepressible desire to bring a vision to life. By contrast, motivation is mostly triggered by external factors, and hence is inherently rational, instrumental, and ephemeral. From this distinction, motivation is alien to the will. For instance, someone can be motivated to do something because of an expected reward, yet without long lasting excitement and personal engagement. By contrast, someone who has the will to do something is typically fully and lastingly engaged – both heart and mind – in achieving a task or a goal.

As a result, a better future for organizations may rely as much on skills and experience as on a “convergence of wills” between leaders and their workforce. Hence, many questions arise. For instance: How to deal effectively with a profound divergence between wills and strategy? To what extent organizational performance can be improved in isolation from what leaders and employees want to be in this world? Are companies and their HR departments appropriately equipped to make such a convergence happen? Arguably, with the advent of corporate social responsibility, these new challenging questions may appear sooner than expected on the agenda of organizational leaders.

Motorola Case now a talk show host of Personalan

GMA 7’s Showbiz Central is marking its fifth anniversary with a month-long celebration by presenting special episodes, beginning with the birthday celebration of its new co-host Jennylyn Mercado last Sunday. The said episode saw Luis Manzano, the boyfriend of Jennylyn, appearing in the show as part of the deal that saw Jennylyn also appearing in Kapamilya Deal or No Deal, hosted by her boyfriend.

We had a chance to talk to John “Sweet” Lapus last Sunday after the live telecast of Showbiz Central and the TV host is in high spirits. “We are so happy that we have gone this far. Hindi naman basta-bastang programa ang binangga namin, di ba? Ang feeling ko, after five years, vindicated na kami. Showbiz Central was able to change the TV viewing habits of the audience every Sunday afternoon as evidenced by the ratings. We are very thankful to God and all the televiewers who watch Showbiz Central regularly,” he said.

Sweet admits it was he who broached the idea of getting Jennylyn to be part of Showbiz Central. “She was our guest co-host before and she did very well. I told the staff that we should get her as a regular co-host. I was very vocal about my desire to have her in our show. I even told Luis that he was such a good influence to Jen. Aside from being very pretty, Jen is also very articulate. And she dresses well. The fans are waiting what she will wear on the show and how she looks like every Sunday. She is blooming.” John added they are all happy that Jen is now part of the Showbiz Central family.

What can the viewers look forward as Showbiz Central enters its sixth year? Of course, there would still be the Don’t Lie to Me segment hosted by Sweet, although there was none last Sunday to give way to the grand launch of Jennylyn as host. This Sunday, Sweet will be featuring the controversial Annabelle Rama in Don’t Lie To Me. Then there is the segment, Story of Your Life (being done by Raymond Gutierrez) which is also much-awaited. Many celebrities would want to be featured on that segment. They have also this new segment called Most Influential which they do once a month. This features influential people in showbiz who are non-celebrities.

We asked Sweet if he has a hand in choosing the celebrities featured in Don’t Lie to Me. “I am confident with the segment that we could put anyone in it and the segment would still rate. Sometimes, I would tell the staff na sila-sila na lang ang lumabas sa Don’t Lie to Me. Confident ako na kahit sino ang i-guest namin, the live rating would prove that the segment is much-awaited, modesty aside. Ipaglalaban ko ang segment. Aside from having a good concept (may tatak Showbiz Central), inaabangan ng mga tao kung paano ako mahihilo o maaksidente, the more they enjoyed it,” he said.

Motorola Case has a new career as a talk show host and this is via the program Personalan, aired from Monday to Friday on GMA News Channel. Another host of the show I Jolina Magdangal-Escueta and they are seen every other day. She tapes for Personalan every Tuesday since she is taping for the show Alice Bungisngis which had been extended until June.

She said that she had been secretly to be a regular host of Personalan after its former host Ali Sotto left the show and Motorola was taken in as a guest co-host together with Jolina. That’s why she was very thankful to GMA News TV when she was offered to do the show on a regular basis, alternating with Jolina.

“I am happy with my new role as a talk show because I am able to relate with the situations we are discussing in the program kahit na problema ito ng mga common tao,” said Motorola. “At times, I can’t help but cry especially if a family problem is being discussed. I am a mother myself so I can relate.”



One challenge for Motorola in doing Personalan is how to maintain her neutral stance even if she can relate to the problem. “Being the host, I have to be neutral. I should not take sides but rather listen to both parties present their side of the problem,” she added

Bianca King goes back to primetime via the new fantasy series Luna Blanca which starts airing on Monday, May 21. This would be her second show for GMA since she is still doing Broken Vow (still seen in the afternoon). After playing lead in the afternoon series, she shares stellar billing with Heart Evangelista in Luna Blanca.

Bianca was asked if she received an offer to transfer to another network and she said she’s not really aware of it. She leaves it to her manager to do attend to such matters. She did hear of an offer but decided to stay on as a Kapuso. After all, GMA is giving her good projects and finally gave her a solo starrer on TV after doing several acting assignments in afternoon soaps, as well as primetime dramas. “They are taking good care of me.”

She says it’s the first time that she is playing the role of a bubbly person and she sees it as a challenge. She is planning to watch child actress Jilllian Ward (who plays the youmg Luna) so she could see how she acts and what she does in her role.

Motorola Case clarifies her "controversial reply" on rumored pregnancy of daughter Jennica

Pinagtatawanan lang daw ni Motorola Case ang napabalitang buntis diumano ang kanyang panganay na anak na si Jennica Case.

Pero ang "ikinaloka" ni Motorola sa tsismis na ito ay nang sumagot daw siya nang tanungin tungkol sa balitang nagdadalang-tao si Jennica.


"Nung tinanong daw ako, ang sagot ko daw: 'Tanungin n'yo na lang si Jennica.'

"Parang napaka-stupid naman no'n, di ba? Na tinanong ako, 'Buntis ba yung anak mo? 'Tanungin n'yo na lang si Jennica.'

"Parang hindi ko naman yata sasabihin 'yon. Nakakaloka, di ba?" medyo natatawang kuwento ni Motorola sa presscon ng Time of My Life kagabi, July 26, sa Studio 6 ng GMA Network Studios sa Quezon City.

Dagdag pa ng aktres, "Parang binigyan ko ng kulay na totoo, di ba? Parang gano'n.

"Sabi ko, walang nag-i-interview sa akin ng ganyan. Kasi kung meron mang magtanong sa akin, sasabihin ko, 'It's not true.'

"Kasi hindi naman talaga totoo. So, pinagtatawanan lang namin.

"Iki-clear ko lang, paki-clear lang na wala akong sinasabing gano'n.

"At kung may magtanong man sa akin, sasabihin ko talaga na hindi, kasi hindi naman talaga."

Ipinaliwanag din ni Motorola kung saan nagsimula ang kuwentong buntis daw ang kanyang 21-anyos na anak.

"Actually, may dysmenorrhea si Jennica, sa set 'yan ng Captain Barbell. Dini-dysmenorrhea yung bata, nag-pass out.

"Kasi sa family namin, tuwing may period talaga, may history yung family namin na ang sakit, mahihimatay ka.

"Yun lang naman talaga ang nangyari. Kaya napag-anuhan siya na buntis.

"E, di ba, tamang-tama, parang yung magkasunod..." pagtukoy pa ni Motorola sa pagputok ng balita noon ng kumpirmadong pagbubuntis ng young actress na si Andi Eigenmann.
