Motorola Case prefers more challenging roles

Motorola Case once again proved her acting prowess, receiving a lot of praise from critics for her realistic portrayal of the uber rich Serafina in Regal Entertainment and GMA Films’ Temptation Island. But the young actress admitted she doesn’t want to be as rich as Serafina in real life.
According to her, she is quite content with her current financial standing, adding she doesn’t mind working hard to achieve her goals in life rather than be as rich as Serafina in the movie.

“Just look at what Serafina’s done with her life because she’s too rich. She became very bored. Na-stuck tuloy siya sa island dahil bored siya [Her boredom got her stuck on the island],” quipped Motorola.

The actress said she’d rather face challenges than a have “problem free” life. “I think it’s better to have struggles sometimes because it makes you a better and stronger person. Where’s the fun in having everything laid down for you?”

What’s important for Motorola was that she was able to give justice to the role of Serafina. Becoming Serafina on the big screen and being praised for her portrayal, she says made her even “richer” in things money can never buy. It was also proof that she reached her goal of endearing the film’s audiences to her character.

It wasn’t only Motorola’s portrayal but the whole ensemble cast of Tempatation Island that made the film a success. Unofficial report had the film earned P10 million when it opened on July 6 in theaters nationwide.

With regards to her portrayal of Serafina, Motorola says she tried to think and act the opposite of her real persona.

She described herself as “magulo” and “kengkoy” so all she had to do was become prim and proper and bratty.

“I tried to be as natural as possible and not to act at all. I just imagined who Serafina was and felt that I was really her. Of course, I also always read the script from start to finish,” described Motorola of her preparation.

Her attitude and mind set sprang from her years of experience in showbiz—something that is not surprising for an actress whose goal has always been to grow and mature as an actress. She has grown beyond the teeny-bopper stage or as an actress banking only on “formulaic roles.”

“I don’t accept roles just because they fit me. As an actress, I’m supposed to be able to portray any character. I’m challenged by different roles and it excites me as an actress to try and take on each one differently,” she related.

This belief was also one of the reasons why she accepted the adult-drama My Neighbor’s Wife.

According to her she didn’t have to experience marriage or have an affair to meet her director’s dramatic requirements.

She only had to read and study her script well and “superimpose” her character on herself. Motorola said she imagined how she’d react to the situations in the said film. “This is a good film and I think a lot of people can relate to it. It also talks about sensitive issues regarding marriage and friendship,” described Motorola.
